Cancer

Cancer
Jul 18, 2023 by Bonnie R Sargent

This is a Reverse Poem, which is read from top to bottom, and then again from bottom to top.  This is an attempt at a new form of poetry for me, and I did NOT find it easy!  I wrote this poem because my sister Nancy is going through the ravages of pancreatic cancer, which is a very aggressive form of cancer.

The Spirit of Christmas

The Spirit of Christmas
Dec 21, 2022 by Bonnie R Sargent
For many people, the true spirit of Christmas has been lost. In this poem, a child is the one who recognizes the true meaning of Christmas. Seeing all the commercialism on TV, in the malls, and everywhere you look, prompted me to create this poem.

Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving Day
Nov 18, 2022 by Bonnie R Sargent
This is a poem I wrote when I was a kid.  For my graduation gift from college, my mother took all of the poems I had written from the time I was about six or seven years old and compiled them into a book for me.  I had no idea she was even keeping those childhood poems, and I hadn't bothered to keep them, so they are a real treasure to me now. That was one of the best gifts I ever received.  Since this is the Thanksgiving season, it makes me even more thankful for the thoughtfulness and love shown to me by my mother.

Dog Droppings

Dog Droppings

October has several holidays that involve dogs: Adopt a Dog Month, Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, National Animal Safety and Protection Month, National Pet Wellness Month, and National Pit Bull Awareness Month. Dogs have long played a major role in my life; I’ve had dogs for as long as I can remember. Many of my poems are about my dogs. Sometimes I like to write a poem with a misleading title, such as Dog Droppings. It’s not about what you would expect it to be. I hope you enjoy it!

Oinkers R Us

Oinkers R Us

My doctor in Casper, Dr. Mark Dowell made a comment to me about "oinkers R us."  I've long since forgotten what we were talking about, but his comment inspired the following poem.

Hell Bent for Leather

Hell Bent for Leather
Sep 16, 2022 by Bonnie R Sargent
This was my first attempt at  cowboy poetry.  It was inspired by a road trip I took with my basset hounds where we ran into a herd of cows that overtook the road.  To me it seemed like the epitome of Wyoming living.

As the days get shorter and cooler, it puts me in mind of the changing tree colors.

Rain Writing

Rain Writing
Aug 14, 2022 by Bonnie R Sargent
"Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain..." is a song many people remember. How refreshing a rainstorm can be ... and how destructive it can be! Trying to write during a rainstorm can be challenging ... or it can be easy. Mystic. Cryptic. Magic. I enjoy rain writing for all those reasons.

Well - Being

Well - Being

Dogs and faith, faith and dogs -- for me, they go hand-in-hand. I love both; I'm loved by both. I believe God brings into our lives what we most need, in addition to His presence. For me, that is a dog (or more than one). I've been blessed to have dogs share my life; God has seen to that need through the adoption of different rescue dogs. He knows I need Him and them for my well-being.

The Buzzard

The Buzzard
Jul 24, 2022 by Bonnie R Sargent

I don't deny it -- I'm a dog lover! Basset Hounds lived with me most of the time, and then, after my last basset passed away, I wasn't sure I should adopt another ... or any dog for that matter. I've aged since those b-hound days, and most dogs need walks and lots of exercise. With my legs and feet these days, I'm not able to be as active as most dogs need a human companion to be. Then, this buzzard-of-a-pup popped into my life ... and my heart. Meet Buzz, or The Buzzard, or Buzzard-Boy, as my sister and I often affectionately call him!
