Writings From My Heart to Yours

Rain Writing

Aug 14, 2022 by Bonnie R Sargent

rain writing

back porch under tin roof

cushioned chair

journal propped on crossed knees

pencil between teeth

as if they could bite the words out

mother of pearl sky

gusty winds

flap pages of journal

as if impatient for words

that refuse to come

gusts grow stronger

sky darkens into a bad mood

bolt of lightning

roll of thunder

spatter of raindrops

black clouds boil overhead

sky erupts into maelstrom

of rain wind lightning thunder

weeping clouds soak ground

rain gods are angry

tin roof like pounding hoofs

as storm stampedes across sky

downspouts overflow

hail bounces high off lawn

needles rip from pine tree

stampede fades into distance

rain slows then stops

wind dies to stillness

air laundered to freshness

storm is no more

words spew onto page

like rain from clouds

emptying the soul

and leaving peace

the storm is gone
